Grunn – Game talk:

It’s just a farming game bro, trust me.

Wake up, honey, it’s time to get your yearly dose of Farming Game Dopamine. You know it, I know it, all gamers know it. We yearn for the farm. Farming games are nice, super simple, and make our very baby-bottom-smooth brains feel real good. This week’s labor of love is Grunn, a title by Tom van den Boogaart—a guy known for making very immersive and relaxing games with no spooky undertones at all. Nope, none of that here, that’s for sure.

The game is very cute. Like every farming sim, the game starts with you arriving at a new town, ready to work. You get to your shack after a quick walk through town and find your list of chores from the home’s owner. “Please have the yard cleaned and presentable by Monday,” it says. You’re given the task of cutting the grass, trimming the hedges, picking up trash, and watering the plants. Easy peasy! What a nice little weekend job to turn my brain off and chill with.

But wait a second. I don’t see any of the tools I’ll need. There’s also a journal near the bed from the previous gardener that just kind of ends mid-entry. And, uh, where is the owner of the home? Huh, seems a little spooky. Nah, I’m just being silly. Guess I’ll need to look around for those tools!

After finishing my playthrough in about four hours, I can confidently say this game is great. Lots of puzzles, tons of immersion, and totally no spooky stuff at all. Trust me, bro, the “horror” genre tag on Steam is a typo, haha. In all seriousness, though, if you’re looking for a bite-sized treat to play this Halloween, please play Grunn. The developer created something magical with a very immersive and unique experience that kept me hooked from beginning to end.

This is an easy 3 gnome idols out of 3, and anyone who likes gardening, mystery, and cute—totally not spooky—vibes will absolutely love this game. Play it. Trust me, man. It’s just a farming game.
